Blogs vs. Wikis

Both Wikis and Blogs are making a place for people to express one’s knowledge and interest of something. By that, people could also consider them as a learning tool for people to use. Everyone have their own opinions and everyone is different, also everyone have their own way to express their knowledge and their thoughts in their own words. Just by reading, people learn from each other unconsciously.
Blog is actually more like a personal website in the form of journal. “Through blogs, people are able to write about topics that interest them and comment freely on what is going on in their lives and in the world around them”, said by Melissa Gerry in her article “Celebrity Blogs: The Impact of New Media”. Blog could be great place to follow up when it comes to celebrity, because as Melissa mentioned in her article that some blogs are quite successful in discussing celebrity news, sharing photographs, and other topics in entertainment. As today, there are many younger viewers are now turning to blog to read celebrity gossip and because there is only one author and the knowledge is limited by one single person, blogs become the great place for them to see the latest photos of their favorite stars, also bloggers could link to other bloggers, connecting to and creating interesting ideas. .
One major difference between Wiki and Blog is that Wiki is a collaborative website which can be directly edited by anyone with access to it which blog can’t do that. Wiki is an equal opportunity platform for everybody. Knowledge comes from people all over the world. It has many authors with various personalities and experiences. Hence, people do not have to worry about their writing skills, just express their knowledge freely and other people will make corrections to it if they see it. According to “How to Use Wikis for Business” by Ezra Goodnoe, Wiki also provides the collaboration software that will help business to run, such as centralize all types of corporate data, structurally capable of handling conversation, maintain a series of unique documents, etc. Moreover, Wikis are cheap, extensible, and easy to implement, and they don't require a massive software rollout. Therefore, as today, there is a lot of businesses use the Wiki to operate and manage their company. Wiki also allows team members to communicate and share the works within that group.  “Wiki’s a software application that allows groups of users to create; edit and comment on online documents—so that each team member could contribute and access up-to-date information on the project. Wikis don't require a lot of personnel to support them and many of the tools are free”, said by Margaret Locher in “More on How to Build Your Own Wikipedia”.
